GAIA Trial: Evaluating TOP-Phos and Duo Maxx
The objective of the 2021 GAIA trial was to assess the impact of Timac Agro’s TOP-Phos and Duo Maxx on the yield, grade, and quality of Russet Burbank potatoes grown in Manitoba for French fry production. The trial was conducted across three locations with varying soil pH levels, using four replications per site.
The following treatment groups were established:
- Control: MAP/10-34
- TOP-Phos (100% P)
- TOP-Phos (80% P)
- MAP/10-34 + Duo Maxx

Results from the 2021 Trial:
- TOP-Phos (100% P): Yield increase of 23-31% in the 6-10 oz potato size category at harvest.
- MAP/10-34 + Duo Maxx: Yield increase of 3-32% in the 6-10 oz potato size category.
- TOP-Phos (80% P): Yield increase of 9-21% over the control (MAP/10-34).
These results demonstrate a consistent increase in marketable potato yield when using Timac Agro products

GAIA Trial: Evaluating Fertiactyl and Fertileader
Building on the success of the 2021 trial, a follow-up study in 2022 examined the effects of Fertiactyl and Fertileader, biostimulants designed to enhance plant health and productivity. This trial also measured their influence on yield, grade, and quality of Russet Burbank potatoes for French fry processing.
Application Timing:
- Fertiactyl: Applied at the start of germination.
- Fertileader: Applied at the onset of flowering (tuber initiation stage).

Results: A 5.2% increase in marketable potato yield with fertiactyl and fertileader
Agronomic Benefits
Like all crops, potatoes rely on the nutrients available in the soil at the time of growth. These limitations can be mitigated by applying products such as Top-Phos and Duo Maxx at planting, as well as bio-stimulants like Fertiactyl and Fertileader during the growing season.

The 15mm tubers are the ones that fill into full sized, harvestable potatoes. After tuberization you have to maximize the plant reserves to have these tubers grow into marketable sizing.
